Ventura Yacht Club is a full-service facility located on the west side of Ventura Harbor between the Ventura Harbor Village and Channel Islands
National Park Headquarters. Ventura Yacht Club maintains a lively Juniors' Program. In addition to the summer weekly programs,
Juniors' Sundays are offered monthly to all junior members.
Racing, drills, and fun encompass these Sundays with BBQ lunches as part of the routine. Regattas are also offered
throughout the year, including the Sabot High-Point Series.
The summer sailing programs offer a safe, educational, and fun environment. We want the kids to learn, and have a great
time while doing so. Learning sailing skills is supplemented with fun activities such as sailing to the beach or park, having
picnics, going on treasure hunts, playing boat-sponge tag, and having relay team competitions.
The goal of the program is to promote good overall seamanship through learning racing
and sailing skills, water safety, and the Corinthian spirit, and to have a great time while doing so. While having fun,
the kids will learn a wonderful sport that they can participate in for the rest of their lives. VYC maintains a quality fleet
of Sabots, Lazers, and FJs. All classes are taught by US Sailing certified instructors.
The summer classes have an average instructor-to-student ratio of 5:1,
so the students receive the highest degree of attention and tailoring to their specific needs. The head instructors are US
Sailing Certified, and are able to certify students through US Sailing. The program emphasizes a fun and safe learning
environment. The goals of the instructors are to offer kids a safe class that is a fun, unique, and exciting way to spend
time on the water, while teaching the students good sailing techniques and skills.

Note From Robbie
"So we've just begun
our fourth week of summer sailing classes, and times at the VYC Youth Sailing Program couldn't be better! Today was our
busiest day in the history of the program! We had 25 kids show up along with 7 outstanding instructors. So as you can tell,
we've been kept busy, but at the same time, have been providing great classes during which the kids have the opportunity
learn an exceptional sport in a magnificent setting. I want to urge you to sign up your kids early if you want them to take
part in classes this summer, as we have had to turn away numerous students who have wanted to participate, which puts a burden
on my heart... So sign up early and expect great things from us down at the docks this summer! I look forward to seeing you
at the club!
I also wanted to take the time to thank all of you who have taken part in the program this summer. It's
been a pleasure teaching your kids how to sail and getting to share a sport that I love with them. They've been great
so far! Much thanks as well to our superb staff-- Jacqueline, Steven, John, Eddie, Thomas, Nick L., Nick D., and Katelyn --
who have been doing an amazing job. And last, but certainly not least, Scott, our great juniors chair who's been working
harder than anyone can imagine, taking this program to heights never before deemed possible. Thank you all…

Have a great summer!
School’s out
for summer and who knew we would have 35 kids show up for our June 14 Sunday Fun Day?! Our Optis sailed out to the Whistle Buoy (R2) in the morning in 8
knot winds for some fun out in the waves. Our Sabot fleet sailed a triangle course in the basin with about 5 knots of breeze.
Then after lunch the Opties did some racing with the FJs over by the launch ramp (where the Lasers race on Friday nights).
By the time you read this we will be well into our Summer Sailing Sessions. So I would like to thank all of our kids
and parents for helping and supporting our program. Also a special thanks to Norris Leap, Paul Moore and Joel Bozarth for
help building the new dingy racks. Our next Sunday Fun Fay is July 12. Please come early and have breakfast at the club. Have
a great summer. Oh, and if you’re not doing anything on Wednesday nights, come on down to the club and watch our Sailing
Team race Opties and have “ Wet Wednesday” dinner at the Club. Thanks Scott Nordeng.
